Remember the gut-wrenching car accident that made Panther fans collectively gasp two years ago? It was the one in which star quarterback Cam Newton was t-boned on Church Street, and his truck flipped. Newton broke two bones in his back as a result of the accident.

After 2014 accident, Newton said, “There should be a light there because it’s an extreme safety hazard. … I hope that the city of Charlotte or Mecklenburg County does something about that intersection right there. It’s extremely dangerous and I would love to see something to take place right there.”

Newton got his wish.

Developers Lincoln Harris and Goldman Sachs are putting a traffic signal and push-button activated pedestrian signals at Church Street and West Hill Street, the Charlotte Observer reported. According to City Council’s agenda, the traffic signals will help “mitigate traffic impacts around their respective development projects.”

The site of the accident was on of the most dangerous in the city, the Observer reported.
